I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, UK. Using tools and techniques from both mathematics and engineering I investigate lymphatic drainage in the brain, trying to resolve the driving mechanisms behind it and its failure during age. This is particularly relevant for Alzheimer’s disease. As we age our brain’s lymphatic system slows down and if it fails entirely protein deposits in the walls of arteries lead to the onset of dementia. My PhD thesis deals with the investigation of the role of arterial pulsations as a potential major driving mechanism.
