Comparing 2D and 3D results for the exact same problem

0 votes

I was solving linear static elasticity problem for a 3D and 2D beam created in Gmsh. I defined the mesh fineness to be same and every thing including the acting forces, dimensions, degree of elements (both Lagrange, 2) is same.

The only difference is that of 2D and 3D. Below, I have attached my outputs, even though they come close, they are not the same. Apart from the obvious, what could be the reason? How can we state the reason in technical jargon? Is it possible to further bring the two solutions closer?
