Status of subdomain restricted finite element spaces

Hello

What is the status of finite element spaces defined on subdomains. In particular, I am interested in a subdomain which is a subset of the boundary. The application of this is to use Lagrange multipliers to impose dirichlet boundary conditions.

This is a feature many of us want, but it's not being actively pursued by anyone right now, so it's impossible to give any time estimate. Not for FEniCS 1.5 this year, maybe for 1.6 next year.
