Does fenics also support isoparametric finite elements ?

+3 votes

Dear All

I am working on some code, that makes use of robin boundary conditions.
In three dimensions the accuracy of the boundary integral is limited by the
mismatch between the plane triangles and the spherical surface. On way of
improving the accuracy would be using isoparametric triangles that
would approximate the curvature better.

Dear Garth
Thanks a lot for your answer!
Is support for isoparametric elements
on the horizon?

I'm missing this feature too. What happened to Shawn Walkers patch that was discussed in year 2008 - at a quick glance it seems that he already implemented some code for this? (see thread http://www.mail-archive.com/dolfin-dev@fenics.org/msg04154.html ).

@Tuomas The patch was not a complete solution.

Dear Colleagues

I want to n
again support the need for isoparametric
elements.
In the moment the only library I know that does isoparametric elements
is deal.II and its learning curve is a bit steeper than fenics.

Moritz
